The audience burst into applause just as the sopranos of the Stony Brook Opera finished their introduction number from composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.”
The audience is seated and the curtains are raised, but instead of the customary set with a smattering of actors and pit orchestra behind it, there hangs a large screen.
