The Seawolves, who were hosting only their second season closer since 2012, knew it would be their last with the offensively explosive tandem of senior guards Shania ‘“Shorty” Johnson and Jerell Matthews.
In a game where scoring came in batches, Stony Brook Men’s Lacrosse downed last year’s America East Conference champion, Vermont, on Saturday afternoon, 10-9.
Then the Seawolves appeared to remember who they were and scored 11 straight goals on their way to a 20-4 victory, improving their conference record to 3-0 and their overall record to 11-1. Binghamton dropped to 1-1 in conference play and 5-8 overall.
The Stony Brook men’s basketball team ended its regular season in Burlington, Vermont on Saturday afternoon, falling to the top-ranked Catamounts, 66-51.
At one time down 17 with 16:30 remaining, Stony Brook managed to cut the deficit to three with 8:41 left to play, but it was the closest Stony Brook came to taking the lead.
Jameel Warney and Rayshaun McGrew each registered double-doubles on Saturday afternoon, leading Stony Brook to a 71-61 win over New Hampshire in their America East season opener.
