The Seawolves broke a two-game losing streak and improved to 5-8 with the win. They will return home and face Norfolk State in their last game of 2017 on Dec. 30 at 7 p.m.
Redshirt-sophomore forward Akwasi Yeboah took charge of the Stony Brook Men’s Basketball offense in the team’s game Thursday against Columbia, scoring a career-high 30 points as the Seawolves defeated the Lions 76-66.
The Seawolves won by a final score 85-83 Saturday night at the Island Federal Credit Union Arena after Saint Francis’ game-winning attempt bounced off the side of the rim.
In a game where the Stony Brook men’s basketball team dominated the entire first half, Stony Brook was unable to ride its momentum into the second half against Ball State and lost 87-76.
Yeboah plans on approaching this season with a sense of purpose and playing with a passion that will hopefully bring Stony Brook an America East Championship. Just like his mother always told him.
The Stony Brook men’s basketball team was unable to maintain the lead it controlled against UConn for the majority of Tuesday’s game, the first of the PK80 Invitational.
In order to make an impact at the college level, Ochefu understands that he must continue to grow. It will not be easy to crack Stony Brook’s starting lineup, but he is up for the challenge.
Sturdivant described the joy of winning that first championship at Stony Brook as “an amazing feeling.” But it remains to be seen what a second championship at Stony Brook would feel like, but if the Seawolves were to capture one, it would be on the back of Sturdivant’s leadership.
Now in his second season coaching the Seawolves, he will have the chance to develop young guards such as Cornish and McKenzie as well as continuing to establish a foundation for the culture he is forging at Stony Brook.
