OPINION: In the last 10 years, there has been increased attention toward police violence. But, coverage of these victims will often fixate on alleged criminal pasts or decry them as “no angel” without placing blame on police officers.
2020 was a milestone year for racial unrest and protests. During the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement, one student at Stony Brook University made it their mission to show the racial unrest within the campus community.
Representatives of the Black Lives Matter organization and audience members chanted “We have nothing to lose but our chains!” at a panel discussion on Tuesday evening.
If there is one thing I have learned from growing up in Florida, it is that crazy people are alive and well in this world. I also recently discovered that snow is not just a myth from the spooky white men of the north, and icicles are not something exclusive from the hardware store to decorate your house at Christmastime, but I digress. It seems that every news outlet has a “bizarre Florida stories” page. We have it too, but it’s just the community section. If you thought that your local news stories were insane, a little known fact is that our local news station doubles as the Maury Povich show.
