The 52nd straight America East win for the No. 6-ranked SBU women’s lacrosse team was a sweet one. One of the most talented senior classes in Stony Brook history wrapped up their final regular season with a dominating 18-7 win over UMBC on Saturday.
In its 51st straight America East win, the Stony Brook women’s lacrosse team secured its eighth consecutive regular season championship and a spot in the America East playoffs with a 22-4 knockout over New Hampshire in Durham on Wednesday, April 28.
“We were having a great year,” head coach Joe Spallina said in an interview with The Statesman. “We were ranked really high. We had beaten a top five team on the road and we had the carpet pulled out from under us, just like everybody else,”
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) released a statement on Friday, March 13, through Twitter regarding plans to give spring athletes an extra year of eligibility.
