Failing to point out the school’s problems is the same as claiming they don’t exist, and sweeping Stony Brook’s problems under the rug puts a whole new class of high school seniors in a position to be blindsided should they choose to come to the so-called 80th-best college in the country.
Budget problems are not solved overnight. Drastic measures have been and will continue to be taken, but efforts must be made to localize and reduce the damage so that the university can emerge minimally scathed.
As the school prepares to reopen the pool after five years, the program, which had been put on hold during that time, will not resume despite former promises from the university.
