The Stony Brook women’s basketball team notched their first win of the season as they went on the road and defeated the Manhattan Jaspers by a final score of 65-52 on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at the Draddy Gymnasium in Riverdale, New York.
The Stony Brook men’s basketball team opened its season on Tuesday, Dec. 1 against the Saint Peter’s Peacocks. The Seawolves fell apart in the second half en route to an 82-68 loss in Jersey City to fall to 0-1 on the season.
Coming on the heels of their home opener loss to Fordham, the Seawolves were tasked with taking down a talented Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) team highlighted by the feel-good story of returning Orange redshirt-senior point guard Tiana Mangakahia.
Coming off a defense heavy victory over Sacred Heart, the Stony Brook women’s basketball went into Steinberg Wellness Center on Wednesday, Nov. 27 and put on an offensive clinic. The Seawolves knocked off the winless Long Island University Sharks, 80-49.
Senior guard Shania “Shorty” Johnson and redshirt-junior guard Akwasi Yeboah have wasted no time taking the helm of the women’s and men’s basketball teams, respectively. Both are averaging over 17 points per game and have already been recognized as America East Player of the Week for three consecutive weeks.
