For an hour on Wednesday, Feb. 15, a small band of students tried to make their voices heard at Stony Brook University’s West Campus fountain — nearly a week after the Mobility and Parking Services (MAPS) proposed to switch to a fully-paid parking model in August 2023.
The 33rd annual Roth Regatta took place on April 29, with the theme “Sands of Time.” Boats ranged in theme from Noah’s Ark to the Titanic, with multiple magic school buses, a Shrek-themed boat and even an army-style tank manned by ROTC students.
It should not be hard to regularly fill Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium’s 12,300 seats or Island Federal Arena’s 4,000 seats for sports games. Yet Stony Brook’s attendance numbers have remained low throughout the years.
Although cases have declined since the break, according to the Stony Brook COVID-19 dashboard, students continue to voice their fears about their physical and mental health as the semester progresses.
Sitting by the table, the new dean of students gets to hear students’ stories and experiences at Stony Brook, good or bad. “That’s just my way of supporting students,” McClendon said. “My little token of saying, ‘come and chat.’”
