After missing out on the national tournament for just the second time in program history, the Stony Brook hockey team looks to make its return to the big dance. The Seawolves finished the 2022-23 season 18-11-4 overall and ranked No. 18 in the nation amongst American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division I teams.
The Seawolves (16-8-3, 6-3-1 ESCHL) traveled to South Kingston, R.I. to face off against the Rhode Island Rams this past weekend for a two-game set. To kick off the series, they lost a highly competitive contest 3-2 in overtime on Friday night.
The American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) is not exactly like the NCAA. Sure, there are similarities between the two national organizations, but they are notably different in many ways.
An untimely split has left the No. 17 Stony Brook club hockey team’s national championship aspirations up in the air as the team continues to fall in the national rankings.
The Seawolves split a home-and-home series with the New York University Violets over the weekend as they tried to wipe the Liberty series from memory. Stony Brook blew the Violets out of their own building on Friday with a dominant 11-2 win before losing 3-1 on Saturday at home.
