The atypical winds and cool temperatures of Madeira Beach, Florida, could not stop the Stony Brook softball team from a red-hot start to their season on Friday, Feb. 21, erasing a five-run deficit in walk-off fashion and beating the Colgate Raiders 6-5. Their opener marks the first of five games this weekend at the annual Spring Games.
In the second game of a difficult 4-game road trip, the Stony Brook men’s basketball team lost 82-78 to the Providence Friars (6-5) on Saturday, Dec. 14, dropping their second consecutive game and falling to 7-5 on the season. The Seawolves held a second-half lead again in the third meeting between the America East and Big East schools but were unable to beat the size and physicality of the Friars.
Seeking their first victory in the Battle of Long Island since 2015, the Stony Brook men’s basketball team could not seal the deal in the final minutes and ultimately fell 71-63 to the Hofstra Pride (7-4), snapping their two-game winning streak and dropping their record to 7-4 on the season.
