Stony Brook University associate history Professor Eric Zolov and his family found themselves amid civil unrest in Chile. While the violence and havoc were devastating, something beautiful came out of the protests — estallido artístico.
Pablo Calvi, an assistant professor at Stony Brook University’s School of Journalism, explored the relationship between Latin American journalism and the socio-political identities it embodies. Fittingly, the event took place in a room covered with photographs of an exhibit highlighting the Bracero program, a labor exchange agreement between Mexico and the United States from 1942 to 1964.
Associate History Professor Eric Zolov will spend the next academic year teaching a seminar at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile as a recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship for professionals who already have their PhDs or equivalent degrees. Zolov will teach a course called “The Global 60s,” that analyzes the impact of America’s mid-century counterculture movement on Latin America.
