Last season was an unorthodox one for the Stony Brook softball team. Though they suffered several key departures heading into the 2022 season, the Seawolves finished with their highest win total in a decade.

In a softball career that has consisted of constant ebbing and flowing, catcher Corinne Badger has finally found her stride by adopting a new mindset. After batting just .068 through the first two years of her NCAA career, Badger burst onto the scene last year to become one of the best catchers in the nation.
“I was just kind of going in there to have fun,” Badger said. “See the ball, hit the ball. Just keep it as simple as possible, don’t get too big. I’ve been grinding and working.”
“We have unfinished business,” first baseman Lindsey Osmer said to The Statesman. “I’ve finished second in the America East twice now and that’s not good enough for me.”
Graduate pitcher Melissa Rahrich is not one to be outdone. Rahrich tossed the Stony Brook softball team’s second straight one-hit shutout in a 2-0 home victory over the St. John’s Red Storm on April 20.

Just five days after returning to Long Island from the Sunshine State, Stony Brook Softball went back to Jacksonville on Feb. 28. The Seawolves won the first two games, moving to 7-0 and lasting as the final unbeaten team in the country before falling to North Florida in a perfect game to take their first loss of the season.
The atypical winds and cool temperatures of Madeira Beach, Florida, could not stop the Stony Brook softball team from a red-hot start to their season on Friday, Feb. 21, erasing a five-run deficit in walk-off fashion and beating the Colgate Raiders 6-5. Their opener marks the first of five games this weekend at the annual Spring Games.
