The Stony Brook softball team earned a 5-1 victory over the UMBC Retrievers Wednesday afternoon but fell against the UMass Lowell River Hawks 5-1 Thursday afternoon in its first two America East playoff games.

Iroegbu banked home a three-fourths court shot at the end of the first half, and the Seawolves used that shot to coast to an 81-68 victory over the UMass Lowell River Hawks on Thursday night at the Island Federal Credit Union Arena.
The last-second victory on a Hail Mary pass to graduate wide receiver Harrison Jackson secured the Seawolves a second-place finish in the Colonial Athletic Association.
“What we’ve done best is we have people step up when we need them to step up,” Gowins said. “That’s why we are who we are. It’s just about stepping up when your number’s called. That’s it.”
This has been a difficult stretch for Stony Brook. After going on a two-game winning streak with wins over Maine and UMass Lowell, the team slid into a six-game losing streak.
