Despite a defensive effort for the ages and a one-goal lead during the third quarter, the Stony Brook women’s lacrosse team fell 8-5 to the top-seeded University of North Carolina (UNC) Tar Heels in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday.
The No. 6 Stony Brook women’s lacrosse team entered Saturday night’s matchup against the UMBC Retrievers with two priorities in mind — extending its winning streak to 10 games while also bringing home a victory on Senior Night.
On Thursday, the Brown Bears scored 22 goals against Central Connecticut — the most they have scored in a single game this season. But when the Seawolves came to town on Tuesday, March 22, the Bears couldn’t score more than three.
Disappointingly, the No. 4 Stony Brook women’s lacrosse team couldn’t pull off a win in its season opener against the No. 3 Syracuse Orange, falling just shy of the victory by losing 12-11 at the Carrier Dome in a nail-biter on Sunday, Feb. 20.
