The Stony Brook men’s lacrosse team fell to the Vermont Catamounts by a final score of 19-10 on Saturday, April 30. They finished with a 9-5 record, second place in the America East.
The Stony Brook men’s lacrosse team watched the UMBC Retrievers build up a five-goal lead by the middle of the second quarter, but an elite performance at the faceoff X and the X position secured the 13-11 road win on Saturday, April 23.
“We were unselfish today,” head coach Anthony Gilardi said. “If you look at the box score a lot of guys got involved. Just like our last game against Dartmouth, the more guys we have on the scoresheet the better offense we are playing.”
The Seawolves entered the contest in Hanover, New Hampshire having lost four of their last five games after a 4-0 start. A trio of players — attackman Kevin Mack and midfielders Matt Anderson and Mike McCannell — led the way with three goals each.
In the final conference matchup between two bitter rivals, it was Albany who led for the whole game and withstood a Stony Brook comeback to spring the 12-10 upset.
With 12 seconds left, attackman Kevin Mack’s behind-the-back shot was saved by Scarlet Knights goalkeeper Colin Kirst, his ninth of the second half, and Rutgers hung on to survive 17-16 against an upset-hungry Seawolves team on Saturday, March 5.
