Playing four games in Harrisonburg, Virginia, the Stony Brook softball team was swept in a doubleheader by the James Madison Dukes on Friday, March 12 before sweeping the Rhode Island Rams on Saturday, March 13.
Over the past few years, the Stony Brook softball team has accomplished nearly everything there is to accomplish — broken records, deep playoff runs, individual accolades — but the one thing that has eluded them since 2013 is a championship ring.
After an offseason filled with uncertainty, the Stony Brook softball team began 2021 with a familiar sight: a winning record. The Seawolves won in every way possible this weekend — a pitching duel, a blowout, seventh-inning heroics and extra innings.
Just five days after returning to Long Island from the Sunshine State, Stony Brook Softball went back to Jacksonville on Feb. 28. The Seawolves won the first two games, moving to 7-0 and lasting as the final unbeaten team in the country before falling to North Florida in a perfect game to take their first loss of the season.
The Stony Brook softball team will be flying back to Long Island on cloud nine after winning all five of their games this weekend at The Spring Games. They cruised to victory in both of their games on Sunday, Feb. 23, beating the Georgetown Hoyas 2-1 in the morning and then shutting out the Cornell Big Red 7-0 in the afternoon.
The atypical winds and cool temperatures of Madeira Beach, Florida, could not stop the Stony Brook softball team from a red-hot start to their season on Friday, Feb. 21, erasing a five-run deficit in walk-off fashion and beating the Colgate Raiders 6-5. Their opener marks the first of five games this weekend at the annual Spring Games.
