Curiosity must have hit some people when they saw Arcade Fire perform for “Saturday Night Live” on Sept. 28. It was the first televised performance of Arcade Fire since they concluded the tour of their 2010 Grammy-winning tour de force “The Suburbs” and since they began a curious ad campaign behind their upcoming album. Something seemed very off: these were the faces of Arcade Fire, but no one could recall them in such a strange style.
Pearl Jam has really spread itself out in the last five years, so there is the wonder that “Lightning Bolt” could be just a friendly reminder that they are still around and that there is more coming. For now though, it would have been better to kick down the door instead of just knocking lightly.
Those looking for a break in the McCartney songwriting formula will not find it here. But if you are a McCartney, Wings, Beatles, or just a good time music fan, “New” is a bright album from one of music’s greatest contributors.

As Stony Brook University kicks off a new year, its students and staff have a reason to be thankful for the building with those big steps covered in grass, other than it being a good place to relax. This year is the 25th anniversary of the Staller Center, where all types of art and culture are expressed to the student body every year to wide acclaim.
It was almost a perfect setup for a great night: The setting sun gave the air a great orange glow, the weather was beautiful, and the crowd was ready to shake off the week they had. The setting could not have been better for SBU when young up-and-comers Grouplove and rap veteran Ludacris came to make the crowd bounce on Friday. The first concert to be held at LaValle Stadium was a momentous occasion, and the crowd definitely reflected that feeling from the get-go. Freshman Karthik Krishnan, a biochemistry major and devoted Grouplove fan, had been waiting for some time for the band to come.
