With the sudden chaos developing in Stony Brook Athletics, the department has turned to Donna Woodruff to serve as the Interim Director of Athletics, following Jim Fiore’s firing. If you have ever been to a sporting event on campus, you know who Fiore is: the fiery, intense guy you picture representing the department. But who is Donna Woodruff, and what will she bring to Stony Brook Athletics?

Stony Brook Athletic Director Jim Fiore is leaving the school, according to a release from the school Tuesday night. According to the press release, Senior Associate Athletic Director Donna Woodruff will serve as the Interim Athletic Director, as they look for a replacement.

Seawolves set to end season with Empire Clash

Kenneth P. Lavalle Stadium will fill up for the last time this football season as Stony Brook closes its campaign against rivals Albany in the Empire Clash on Saturday at 1 p.m. As this game has no true meaning besides pride and development for next year’s Seawolves, the real story will be the buying out of Athletic Director Jim Fiore’s contract.

Hoopla: Building a program: the Pikiell era from 2005 to present

Steve Pikiell cannot stop smiling on Media Day. In the ninth year of his Stony Brook career, Pikiell has a lot to be happy about. The head men’s basketball coach has overseen the program as it rose from “just hoping to not play the 8/9 game” to contending for a berth in the NCAA tournament. The Seawolves now have the support of the community, the administration and the student body. They have season ticket holders, sold-out games and a new arena coming next fall. It’s a complete turnaround from what things were like when Pikiell joined the program back in 2005.

Stony Brook baseball head coach Matt Senk was named the 2012 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Coach of the Year during Friday’s news conference in Omaha, Neb. Senk led the team to a record 52 victories and its first-ever appearance in the College World Series.
