After losing by only three points last year in Harrisonburg to the James Madison Dukes (JMU), the Stony Brook Seawolves looked to topple the No. 2 ranked team in the nation in this year’s showdown.
Stony Brook University designated the Gym Road parking lot as the tailgating space for Sunday, Oct. 5’s homecoming football game, according to an email sent to The Statesman on Sept. 22.
The university announced a new linear television deal with SportsNet New York (SNY), best known for being the main broadcast network of its primary owners: the New York Mets.
The Seawolves fell short. And with that, their collective hearts broke as they lost 13-10 on Saturday, Oct. 27 at Bridgeforth Stadium in Harrisonburg, VA.
The team was initially supposed to play five games, but due to scheduling changes, only played three. The Seawolves struggled to gain any momentum and dropped all three of their matchups.
One of the most successful seasons in Stony Brook Football history came to a sputtering end on Saturday against the reigning Football Championship Subdivision national champions, James Madison, in the second round of the FCS playoffs.
Stony Brook Football routed its first-round opponent, Lehigh, 59-29 at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium on Saturday in the Seawolves’ first playoff appearance since 2012 and their first Football Championship Subdivision playoff victory since 2011.
Despite a late fourth quarter drive that put the Seawolves within spitting distance of the end zone, Stony Brook lost their first conference game of the season and ended a four game winning streak.
The Stony Brook Football defense dominated from the onset, as the team beat Delaware, 21-3, at Delaware Stadium on Saturday afternoon for the team’s third consecutive victory.
