The Stony Brook women’s soccer team’s unbeaten streak came to an end in the Battle of Long Island. The Seawolves hosted the reigning conference champion Hofstra Pride on Sunday at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.
After missing a grand opportunity on Thursday, the Stony Brook women’s soccer team is looking to bounce back against the defending conference champions. The Seawolves are looking to get back in the win column as they face the Hofstra Pride on Sunday.
After taking a big early lead, the Stony Brook women’s soccer team had the wind taken from its sails due to a controversial goal towards the end of the first half. Though the Seawolves jumped out to a 2-0 lead with ease on Thursday night, they could not hold it.
A common theme of the 2022 Stony Brook women’s soccer team was its youth — in particular, the age of its stars. The Seawolves had eight freshmen field players, all of whom scored a goal in their debut seasons.
The Seawolves won the Battle of Long Island on Sunday to end their regular season and clinch the sixth seed in the conference tournament. Carried by Côté’s performance, the team defeated the Hofstra Pride 2-1, securing a playoff berth in its first season in the Colonial Athletic Association
The Pride and the Seawolves took the field and fought fiercely to a 2-1 double overtime finish in favor of Hofstra on Sunday, Sept. 8 at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. Stony Brook fell to 4-2 on the season.
