Hundreds of locals gather in Stony Brook to protest police brutality

The protesters shouted phrases like “no justice, no peace,” “don’t shoot,” “silence is violence,” “Black Lives Matter” and responded to the chant “say their name” with the names of those who have lost their lives to police brutality.

On Friday, Feb. 21, the Staller Center for the Arts presented the acclaimed film “Harriet” to a nearly full audience. Directed by Kassi Lemmons, “Harriet” follows American heroine Harriet Tubman on her journey to freedom and her work in the Underground Railroad.
