Stony Brook sports fans and those in the wrestling community may have noticed a lack of coverage, or even match results, for the Stony Brook club wrestling team.
Stony Brook’s club wrestling team took to the mats at arguably the grandest stage of the year, Madison Square Garden, to take on the Montclair State at the third annual Grapple at the Garden.
On Monday, Shaun Lally told The Statesman that he decided to resign as Head Coach of the Stony Brook wrestling club. Lally will take over as Head Coach of the wrestling program at Muhlenberg College.
Last weekend, the Stony Brook wrestling club had the chance to compete against some of the nation’s best teams in the National Wrestling Collegiate Association National Duals event in Dalton, Georgia. The No. 21 Seawolves picked up wins in two out of their six matchups, and finished 15th out of 24 teams in the tournament.
Last year, the Stony Brook wrestling team took the big step of finishing sixth in there conference, and establishing themselves as one of the top club teams on campus. Now, just one month into their second season, they find themselves ranked 18th in the latest National Collegiate Wrestling Association coaches’ poll.
