President Obama signed a deal this Wednesday to end the government shutdown and allow it to continue borrowing money until Feb. 7, 2014. The deal ended a standoff that could have affected the global economy, including Stony Brook University.
Since the start of this month, the whole nation was engulfed in two topics: the government shutdown and the debt ceiling crisis. Stony Brook University is keeping a close watch on both topics since no matter what the outcomes of the crises are, it will have a huge impact on the university.
Stony Brook University requested $30 million from the New York State Legislature to pay off part of a $167.5 million judgment, or court order to pay money, resulting from the improper seizure of 245 acres west of campus.
