A hailstorm spoiled the second game of the Stony Brook softball team’s doubleheader with Fairfield on Saturday, but the Seawolves produced more than enough offensive fireworks in game one to tide them over until next time.
Alyssa Costello, a freshman right fielder, appears to be the Seawolves’ newest breakout star, hitting a three-run home run and an RBI single in the Seawolves’ 7-0 win over Hofstra on March 22.
Corinne Badger isn’t the only one who can hit home runs. Right fielder Alyssa Costello slugged two home runs and scored four runs to help the Stony Brook softball team go 3-1 at the Rutgers Tournament this weekend.
The Stony Brook softball team fell to the Fordham Rams in a two-game sweep on Wednesday, Mar. 16. The Seawolves now drop to a 9-7 record, the closest they have been to .500 all season long.
The Stony Brook softball team won two of four games against some of the nation’s most recognizable teams at the University of South Florida Tournament from March 11 to 13.
“I was just kind of going in there to have fun,” Badger said. “See the ball, hit the ball. Just keep it as simple as possible, don’t get too big. I’ve been grinding and working.”
The Stony Brook softball team headed into its season opener unsure who would replace Melissa Rahrich as the program’s resident power hitter. By the time catcher Corinne Badger hit her sixth home run of the weekend, they had their answer.
Dawn Bodrug is the ace pitcher that every squad dreams of. Luckily for the Stony Brook softball team, they have been blessed with her domination since her arrival on Long Island in 2020.
“We have unfinished business,” first baseman Lindsey Osmer said to The Statesman. “I’ve finished second in the America East twice now and that’s not good enough for me.”
