Stony Brook Women’s Basketball team picked up its first conference victory Saturday afternoon with a score of 80-57 against the Vermont Catamounts, snapping the team’s four-game losing streak.
The shot came down through the net, sending the game into a second overtime period. Unfortunately for Stony Brook, a second shot at extra time didn’t do the trick, and the Seawolves ultimately fell to the Bulldogs 77-71.
The Seawolves tacked on 14 points in the game’s final eight minutes, hitting eight of nine from the free-throw line to make up for a 20 percent mark from the field in the quarter. The team's late surge ultimately fell short, however, and by the final buzzer Stony Brook had lost 48-40.
Stony Brook Women’s Basketball started out cold in its non-conference home game against Division III opponent Farmingdale State, but a collaborative team effort led the Seawolves to a 76-25 victory against the Rams.
The win over Fairleigh Dickinson improves Stony Brook’s overall record to 3-0 to start the season, the first time the team has remained undefeated through three games in Division I play.
