Four days removed from one of the most humiliating home losses in recent memory, the Stony Brook men’s basketball team bounced back in style with a 79-62 domination over the Hofstra Pride on Wednesday, Dec. 8.
After a four-point deficit in the first quarter, the Stony Brook men’s lacrosse team rallied behind graduate attacker Cory VanGinhoven and senior midfielder Mike McCannell in the second half to defeat the Bryant Bulldogs by a final score of 14-8.
In their first game since last year’s cancelation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Stony Brook men’s lacrosse team looked as good as ever as they beat the Sacred Heart Pioneers by a final score of 20-8 on Saturday.
Having seemingly stymied the Bryant Bulldogs with a defensive zone, it appeared as if the Stony Brook men’s basketball team was on its way to victory. Instead, the Seawolves dropped their third straight, 81-72, on Saturday, Dec. 12.
Down by 23, the SBU men's basketball team was left for dead in its annual Battle of Long Island rivalry against the Hofstra Pride. The Seawolves came to within one possession with three minutes remaining, but could not get the stop they needed, falling 72-67.
The Stony Brook men’s basketball team was scheduled to open its season against the Bryant Bulldogs on Wednesday, Nov. 25, but the game was scrapped on early Wednesday morning after a referee reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.
The Seawolves executed a calculated play which saw junior attacker Connor Grippe sneak inside the Bulldogs defense for the wide open scoring attempt. However, freshman goalkeeper Luke Caracciolo read the play perfectly and blocked the shot, keeping the score tied.
Stony Brook jumped out to two-set leads in each game of the Stony Brook Invite by Holiday Inn Express, but it was not enough to overcome Bryant on Friday, Sept. 14.
The cross was placed perfectly in front of him, only the goalkeeper standing in his way. A tap with the right foot, and the ball flew just past the goalkeeper’s outstretched hands into the right corner of the net.
