The Golden Apple is staying on Long Island. In a dominating effort from the opening snap, the Stony Brook football team blew out the Albany Great Danes, its biggest rival, 36-14 on Saturday, Nov. 20 to secure its second straight win in the series.
The Stony Brook football team snapped its four-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium by beating the No. 14-ranked Delaware Blue Hens 34-17. Stony Brook came into the game at 1-5 (0-3 CAA), losing their last two games by a touchdown each.
Having led all game, it looked as if the Stony Brook offense was finally stymied. Then, the Seawolves defense picked the most opportune time to record their first sack of the game.
It was the first time in program history that Stony Brook had ever lost to Rhode Island after winning its first seven contests against the Rams. Dating back to 2019, the Seawolves are 2-11 in their last 13 games.
One of the most successful seasons in Stony Brook Football history came to a sputtering end on Saturday against the reigning Football Championship Subdivision national champions, James Madison, in the second round of the FCS playoffs.
