In their final Southern road trip of the season, the Stony Brook baseball team returned to Hammond, Louisiana for a second straight year and lost two of three from Friday, Feb. 28 to Sunday, March 1, completing the opening 10-game stretch with a 2-8 record.
The 6-foot-2 lefty from Rotterdam, New York broke out in 2019. As a freshman, he batted .233 and hit one home run in 60 at-bats. Sophomore year showed slight improvements, with a .263 average and six homers while starting in 54 games. However, it was as a junior when Hamilton began to bloom into full form.
The speedy outfielder was dealt to the Cincinnati Reds from the San Diego Padres on Thursday, Oct. 31 — less than a day after the end of the 2019 World Series — in exchange for international slot money.
For 29 seasons, head coach Matt Senk has been the driving force that has led Stony Brook’s baseball team. On Friday, Sept. 27, Stony Brook Athletics announced that Senk’s contract would be extended through the 2024 season.
