The Stony Brook University Police Department has a website dedicated to Active Shooter Programs, along with a video about active shooter preparedness — instructing viewers how to act if an active shooter situation occurs on campus.
This semester, I moved off campus. I did it to save money and because I only have classes 2 days a week. I mean no disrespect to the living spaces and people who utilize them on campus. Moving off campus, though, is a great decision.
We are exposed to so much noise both metaphorical and real that even on long, scheduled breaks we may be just as busy as when we are at work or school.
Of course it would be nice to get more reading days, but the purpose of finals week is to have full days to study and take tests anyway. More reading days wouldn’t help; better scheduling would.
This Friday, Dec. 8, is Pretend to be a Time Traveler Day and it was a blast. Now that I am back from the future, I thought I would give some advice on how to spend the day.
And as we plunge into this unnecessarily politicized season, my Facebook feed will be filled with half my friends getting offended by “Merry Christmas” and the other half getting offended by “Happy Holidays.” None of it makes sense to me.
The Opinions section has the power to reach more than 25,000 people and spark conversations that can lead to real change. It is a shame that so few students take advantage of it.
