It is that magical time of year once again: a time of showing off your superior taste and judging the habits of your closest friends. It is Spotify Wrapped season.
Stony Brook University’s Department of Music is hosting its annual Messiah Sing-Along this Sunday, Dec. 10, at 4 p.m. at the Staller Center. This tradition started in the late 1970s by a graduate student and an undergraduate student.

Nashville-based singer-songwriter Kenzie Cait has always wrestled with the idea of growing up — a perspective shaped by nostalgia for her childhood. In an interview with The Statesman, the 20-year-old discussed her debut extended play (EP) titled “innocence,” released on Oct. 20, which was inspired by a recent breakup.
On Nov. 18, iconic country singer LeAnn Rimes performed for a packed house on the Staller Center’s main stage. Rimes won her first Grammy Award at age 14 and remains the youngest Grammy winner to date.
Sabrina Carpenter’s holiday extended play (EP) “fruitcake,” released on Nov. 17, explores the emotional highs and lows of the holiday season with originality and a sense of humor. The release coincides with Carpenter’s appearance as the opening act for Taylor Swift's “The Eras Tour.”
“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” graced screens on Oct. 13, 2023 and earned more than $200 million at box offices around the world. Taylor Swift, in all her greatness, did not disappoint in this musical documentary.
This year, artificial intelligence (AI) has taken the internet by storm and is now infiltrating the music and film industries. The sensational technology began with picture generators such as DALL-E mini.
The Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra lit up Staller Center’s stage on Saturday, Nov. 4 for their second concert of the season. The orchestra, consisting of approximately 70 graduate students from the music department, was under the baton of conductor Anthony Parnther.
In 2018, smle received a Grammy nomination for Best Remixed Recording for their rendition of “Funk O’ De Funk,” originally composed by Bobby Rush. At the time, they had the one nomination in contention and were blindsided by a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.

Having begun her musical journey with the band Candy Hearts, Mariel Loveland is redefining several dramatic life changes — including meeting her now-husband and losing her grandmother — under a new solo project known as Best Ex. After trading the energetic guitars of Candy Hearts for fuzzed-out synths and dreamy acoustics, Loveland discussed her debut album, “With a Smile,” in an interview with The Statesman.
Louis Knight stepped onto the stage of the 18th season of the widely televised singing competition “American Idol” in 2020. After finishing as one of the top seven finalists in the competition, everything stopped as Knight entered the music industry at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
London-based producer, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and DJ Fred Gibson — known professionally as Fred Again.. — kicked off the U.S. leg of his European tour with a three-day concert set at the Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, N.Y. beginning on Oct. 12.
