On Saturday afternoon, the Stony Brook Men’s Basketball team took on the the University of New Hampshire. The day was a special occasion of sorts, as Stony Brook held its 19th birthday celebration for its mascot, Wolfie. But, there was not much to party about for SBU once they got on the court, as the team fell 73-69 to the 5-17 Wildcats.
The Stony Brook men’s basketball team faced their first major bump in their season as they fell to the Albany Great Danes 77-67 at Albany’s SEFCU Arena. Done in by some porous defense, the Great Danes' offense overwhelmed the Seawolves, ending the Seawolves' perfect winning streak in America East play.

This Saturday, the Stony Brook Seawolves Men’s Basketball team headed out to Madison Square Garden, one of the most famous arenas in sports history, to face off against the La Salle Explorers. The game felt like a home game for the Seawolves, as they brought along a whole battalion of cheerleaders, the band and a sizeable student section. The La Salle Explorers gained national notoriety as one of the NCAA tournament’s Cinderellas, advancing to the Sweet Sixteen last year. Stony Brook faced a tough opponent as La Salle had all but one player return from the season where they played a role Stony Brook hopes to this March. However, the game showed evidence that Stony Brook would need a little improvement to reach that goal, as they were shut down offensively in a second half collapse for a 65-57 La Salle victory.
This Sunday afternoon, the Stony Brook Seawolves Men’s Basketball team hosted the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers in a clash of two Long Island colleges. The Seawolves, 5-2 on the season, looked to extend their 13 game home winning streak. St. Francis threatened to be a formidable foe, with a 4-3 season including wins against last year’s ACC champion Miami Hurricanes.
This Sunday night, the Stony Brook Seawolves basketball team faced their toughest test of the year, facing No. 23 Indiana at the Hoosiers' home. Indiana is one of the most storied college programs in history, with over a century of basketball played at the college. They were a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament last year, lead by two players, Victor Oladipo and Cody Zeller, who went in the top four of the NBA draft. Needless to say, this would be a tough match for the Seawolves.

With their lack of serious recruiting power, Stony Brook builds its program on developing recruits over four years at the school. Perhaps their best success in development is of senior guard Dave Coley. Coley, a 6-foot-2-inch guard, was not a highly recruited player out of high school. He was seen as a defensive specialist type player, one to stop the opponent’s offense instead of creating his own. Yet, over his four years here, Coley has become a complete player.
The Stony Brook Seawolves hosted the Providence Friars this Friday night, and there was no lack of excitement, as the Seawolves won the match 3-1, with each set decided by at most 3 points.
