Stony Brook alumnae Lucy Van Dalen runs in London Summer Olympics

In the middle of the 30th Olympiad in London, United Kingdom, the Stony Brook Seawolves were represented in the 1,500m run by Lucy Van Dalen '12 of New Zealand. She ran well enough in her opening race on Monday that she advanced to the semifinal round. She fell in that round on Wednesday.

In the annals of teams that have passed into Omaha, Neb., to play for the collegiate baseball's crown, Stony Brook has now crashlanded for the first time, putting the Seawolves on the map around the nation and the worldwide web. In front of a crowd of 10,620, the largest in the history of the Louisiana State University (LSU) baseball, the Stony Brook University baseball upset the seventh-seeded Tigers in the third game of a three-game set in the Super Regionals to advance to its first ever NCAA College World Series.

Many clubs and organizations on a college campus are born out of a hobby, sport or book genre. But there are some organizations that have a deeper role; the Stony Brook Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Alliance (LGBTA) is one such organization. At the helm of this endeavor is junior English major Colleen O’Connor, the president of an organization that prides itself on being a safe space for those in the queer community who need a haven where they can be themselves.
