Every year, the Stony Brook Muslim Student Association hosts “Islam Awareness Week”  to promote a better understanding of Islam on SBU’s campus. One popular event during Islam Awareness Week is “Scarves for Solidarity.” For an entire day, Muslim and non-Muslim women wore the hijab, a traditional head covering, and then reflected on their experience at a dinner that night, sharing personal stories on why they participated, and what it meant to them.
