HOOPLA 2016

The 2016-17 season will see a large amount of roster turnover from the Stony Brook Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams.

On the men’s side, the Seawolves are coming off the most successful season in program history, culminating in an America East conference championship and trip to Des Moines, Iowa, to participate in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.

But last season’s four leading scorers for Stony Brook — Jameel Warney, Carson Puriefoy, Rayshaun McGrew and Ahmad Walker — are all no longer on the team. The Seawolves brought in three junior college transfers, and redshirt freshman Akwasi Yeboah figures to play a significant role, but it remains to be seen how well they will compensate for the lost production of the departed.

Stony Brook Women’s Basketball fared well in the 2015-16 campaign, ultimately falling to Maine in the conference semifinals after missing a three-point attempt at the buzzer.

The captain of last season’s team, Brittany Snow, graduated and is now in medical school, while Ogechi Anyagaligbo, last season’s America East Rookie of the Year, has transferred to Kentucky to play basketball. The Seawolves will depend on its guard play, led by senior Kori Bayne-Walker, to compete in a highly competitive America East Conference.
